The Midlothian Rotary Club’s first-ever Summer Literacy Program at Crenshaw Elementary School in conjunction with the Washington Redskins’ Read effort launched on Tuesday, July 1, 2014.
Rotarians have been busy reading with Crenshaw students throughout the program and assisting them in building their reading comprehension skills.
Every week, Rotarians from Midlothian Rotary Club, Brandermill Rotary and other local organizations will mentor one-on-one with students enrolled in the program designed to help students increase their reading levels. The program combines reading, comprehension and journal writing activities designed to increase skills and avoid the dreaded “summer reading slump.” Above, Midlothian Rotary Treasurer Richard McCullough reads about dinosaurs with rising 4th graders.
